Helaveda

Helaveda's medicinal tapestry

Helaveda, refers to an empirical traditional medical system unique to the island of Sri Lanka, earlier Ceylon. Helaveda’s medical tapestry, a vast written literature from over 3000 years ago records dedicated court physicians, secret royal recipes and the use of powerful native medicinal herbs, leveraging the immense biodiversity of the island’s Jurassic era rainforest, the Sinharaja.

Before the arrival of Ayurveda to its fabled paradise shores, the island was already practicing an advanced holistic healing science. In fact, archaeological discovery at Mihintale, Anuradhapura has unearthed ruins of an ancient healing center considered by some as the world’s first hospital.

As the world becomes more conscious about ingredients in their beauty care, natural wellness disciplines have risen in popularity around the world. While the world already knows about Ayurveda, it is yet to discover the wonders of Helaveda.

Modern validation of ancient wisdom

Highly prized by islanders, Helaveda was preserved despite invasion, subjugation and erasure. Indomitable physicians carefully passed down their knowledge from one generation to the next, through coded Puskola Poth or Ola / Palm Leaf manuscripts.
Today Helaveda, is popular among islanders for a variety of ailments and is particularly well known for its dermatology and beauty care. Our journey took us across this emerald isle, from ancient temples to the libraries of the last king of Lanka.

Learning deeply from the experience of Helaveda doctors, examining regional herbal skincare with island ethnobotanists and bringing it together with top global natural skincare formulators, we developed clean, adaptogenic formulas with the highest quality precious native ceylon botanicals and rigorously clinically tested them for results.
